Özet (Türkçe)
Aliağa Körfezi (Ege Denizi), kıyı şeridinde yer alan gemi söküm tesisleri ve ağır sanayi faaliyetlerinden kaynaklanan yoğun bir antropojenik baskıya maruz kalmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, gemi söküm sahasının önünden alınan ve antropojenik süreçlerle yoğun biçimde müdahaleye uğramış bir sediment karotunda, geçmiş tarama ve karaya oturtma operasyonlarının jeokimyasal izleri, çevresel adli proksiler (Zr/Al, Ca/Al, Sr/Ca, Mn/Al, S/TOC) ve kirlilik indeksleri aracılığıyla kapsamlı biçimde değerlendirilmiştir. Karotun 15. cm seviyesinden elde edilen 13.000 yıllık 14C yaş verisi, yüzeydeki güncel Holosen istifinin taranarak ortamdan uzaklaştırıldığına ve aşırı konsolide Pleistosen killerinin güncel deniz tabanını oluşturduğuna işaret etmektedir. Fiziksel ve organik parametreler incelendiğinde; üst katmanlardaki yüksek kum oranı (%32-41), 8. cm'deki belirgin yoğunluk artışı (1.69 g/ml) ve alkalen pH (9.04) koşulları ile derin seviyelerdeki yüksek TOC (%7.28) ve petrojenik karakterli C/N (30-38) oranları, ortamın doğal çökelme dengesindeki belirgin bozulmayı yansıtmaktadır. Ele alınan ortam proksilerinde Zr/Al oranının artışı, tarama operasyonları sonrası dipte biriken kaba kalıntıları ve raspa atıklarını; Ca/Al ile Sr/Ca oranlarındaki eğilimler, yapısal beton parçaları ile çelik cürufu girdilerini; Mn/Al oranında gözlenen radikal sıçrama ise metalik hurda ve alaşımların derin katmanlara mekanik enjeksiyonunu ifade etmektedir. Pleistosen yaşlı bu matris içerisinde 1000 ppm seviyesine ulaşan Pb, 3216 ppm Zn ve 897 ppm Cu konsantrasyonları, 4000’i aşan toplam potansiyel ekolojik risk, 150’nin üzerindeki Toksik Risk İndeksi değerleri ile birlikte değerlendirildiğinde belirgin bir ağır metal kontaminasyonu sergilemektedir. Çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular, fiziksel ve kimyasal bütünlüğü bozulmuş kıyısal sediment alanlarında çevresel adli proksilerin, antropojenik müdahalenin niteliğini, mekanizmasını ve etki derinliğini ayrıştırmadaki elverişliliğini ortaya koymaktadır. Abstract (English)
Aliağa Bay (Aegean Sea) is subject to intense anthropogenic pressure arising from ship-recycling facilities and heavy industrial activities along its coastline. In this study, the geochemical signatures of past dredging and beaching operations were comprehensively assessed in a sediment core collected in front of the ship-recycling area, where sediments have been heavily disturbed by anthropogenic processes. The assessment employed environmental forensic proxies (Zr/Al, Ca/Al, Sr/Ca, Mn/Al, and S/TOC) and pollution indices.
A ^14C age of 13,000 years obtained at 15 cm depth indicates that the modern Holocene succession at the surface has been removed through dredging, leaving highly consolidated Pleistocene clays as the present-day seabed. Evaluation of physical and organic parameters revealed substantial disruption of the natural depositional regime, as reflected by the high sand content in the upper layers (32–41%), a pronounced increase in bulk density at 8 cm (1.69 g mL⁻¹), alkaline pH conditions (9.04), and elevated TOC concentrations at deeper levels (up to 7.28%), together with petrogenic C/N ratios (30–38).
Among the investigated environmental proxies, increasing Zr/Al ratios indicate the accumulation of coarse residues and scraping wastes on the seabed following dredging operations. Trends in Ca/Al and Sr/Ca ratios suggest inputs of structural concrete fragments and steel slag, whereas the marked increase in the Mn/Al ratio indicates the mechanical injection of metallic scrap and alloys into deeper sediment layers. Within this Pleistocene matrix, Pb, Zn, and Cu concentrations reached 1,000, 3,216, and 897 ppm, respectively, demonstrating pronounced heavy-metal contamination. This interpretation is further supported by a total potential ecological risk value exceeding 4,000 and Toxic Risk Index values above 150.
The findings demonstrate the usefulness of environmental forensic proxies for distinguishing the nature, mechanisms, and depth of impact of anthropogenic disturbance in coastal sedimentary environments whose physical and chemical integrity has been severely altered.
